Understanding Diabetes Go Go Go!

By

Diabetes is caused due to the alteration occurred in the metabolic activities. Insulin is not produced in the right quantity which helps in controlling the rate at which sugar, starch and other food particles are converted into glucose. Almost all the food particles are broken down to glucose which fuels all the body actions. This hormone is produced by Pancreas and is released into the blood. Insulin helps in maintaining the blood glucose level within the normal range. Glucose must be passed onto the cells from blood and insulin is highly responsible for this job. For people affected with diabetes, pancreas produces little or no insulin or the cells do not respond appropriately to the activities of insulin.

TYPES OF DIABETES

The 3 main types of diabetes are

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes

A person is affected with Type 1 Diabetes that is an autoimmune disease which will result in having no resistance against infection and other germs. The immune system affects the beta cells in pancreas which are responsible for insulin production and destroys. They are advised to take insulin in the form of injection everyday.

Most people are affected with Type 2 Diabetes and a recent statistics reveal that around 90 to 95% of them suffer from Type 2 disease. It leads to obesity and purely it is genetic. The body does not make proper use of the insulin produced in the pancreas. Insulin production is stopped after some years resulting to Type 1 diabetes.

Some pregnant ladies develop Gestational diabetes and the records prove that woman suffering from this will develop Type 2 diabetes within 5 to 10 years. Women with a family history of diabetes are prone to this attack.
