Type 1 diabetes mellitus:
Very rarely is seen amongst those older than 30 years of age. It is most prevalent in children and young adults between 10 and 17; Has no definitive causes although it is believed to be caused by genetic predisposition and or a virus. Other possible cause include infections, high fevers and bacterium; Is also called ?insulin-dependent? diabetes mellitus because insulin injections are always one part of the treatment plan; Is incurable currently although research continues for pancreatic Islet replacement surgeries and other possible cures; Accounts for roughly 10% of all diabetes mellitus cases;
Gestational diabetes mellitus:
Develops in women during the later stages of pregnancy. Develops in women who have otherwise been diabetes-free all of their lives; Is effectively controllable and reversible in most cases through healthy dieting and exercise alone; Almost always goes completely away after delivery; Is caused by poor dietary choices and sedentary living in over 85% of cases;
